The Wharton Health Care Club speaker series brings in leaders from different segments of the health care industry
to speak on a wide range of topics of interest to MBA students considering careers in health care, including
pharmaceuticals, insurance, biotechnology, health care venture capital, finance and consulting and health care
administration. In addition to public lectures, the speaker series program also brings in leading health
care thinkers for “Wine and Cheese” events, offering Wharton students the chance to meet with health care
leaders in a more conversational and intimate environment.
In coordination with other clubs on campus, the HCC speakers series also offers periodic
“For Dummies” lectures, in which leading industry experts offer high-level and thought-provoking overviews
of different segments of the health care industry and related issues. Past forums have included such topics
as “FDA Regulations for Dummes” and “Biotechnology for Dummes: The Science Behind the Technology”. Finally,
the health care speaker series coordinates with other clubs on campus (such as the Penn Biotechnology Group)
to open up events of potential interest to health care-minded students at Wharton.
Past speakers’ events participants have included Tom Kaney, SVP at GlaxoSmithKline, Jon Northrup,
Director of Strategic Asset Management at Eli Lilly & Company, Paul King, former CEO of BCBS of Delaware,
and Mark Baiada, Founder and CEO of Bayada Nurses.
